The Leader of Opposition warned that the mindset behind the singer's killing persists in Punjab during an Insaaf Rally.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recalled his meeting with the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala while addressing an Insaaf Rally in Sangrur on November 4. Speaking at the event, where Moosewala's father Balkaur Singh was on stage, Gandhi described the singer as a dynamic and talented young man.
According to reports by Deccan Herald and The News Mill, Gandhi said he did not know the singer before they met in his office years ago. He noted that Moosewala, who had tattoos, wanted to join the Congress and was subsequently inducted into the party.
Gandhi stated that Moosewala was likely Punjab's most talented singer and could have made a mark in politics. He remarked that the singer's security was removed before he was killed in broad daylight in Mansa district on May 29, 2022.
The Leader of Opposition (LoP) warned that the mindset responsible for the murder is still present in every corner of Punjab. He alleged that people with talent who want to work for the country are often threatened or scared.
Gandhi also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, claiming the 'chitta' drug menace is a major issue. He stated that the BJP and Akali Dal had previously downplayed the drug problem when he first raised it.
The rally in Sangrur was attended by Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sachin Pilot, and Pargat Singh.
