Rahul Gandhi says mindset behind Sidhu Moosewala murder persists in Punjab

The Leader of the Opposition addressed a Congress rally in Sangrur on Wednesday, criticising the state's law and order situation.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday that the same mentality responsible for the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala is still active across Punjab. Speaking at the Congress party's Insaaf Rally in Sangrur, Gandhi noted that the mindset used to shoot the singer in public without fear is now present in every corner of the state.

According to reports from ANI and The News Mill, Gandhi changed his planned speech after being greeted by Moosewala's father, whom he then invited onto the stage. He recalled meeting the singer years ago when the musician approached him to join the Congress party.

Gandhi stated that he felt the singer was entering the dangerous world of politics without fully grasping the risks. He noted that Moosewala's security was removed before he was murdered in broad daylight in a black SUV.

The Congress leader also criticised the state government regarding crime and drug abuse. He claimed that a lack of industry, factories, and agriculture leads to gangsterism and the spread of drugs in the region.

Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Jawaharke village in Mansa district on May 29, 2022. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is accused of involvement in the murder, while Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar is alleged to have planned it.
