Indian Youth Congress suspends 215 office-bearers for missing Delhi rally

The disciplinary action follows the failure of members across seven states to attend the INDIA bloc protest at Ramlila Maidan.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has suspended 215 office-bearers across seven states and the Uttar Pradesh Central unit for failing to attend the INDIA bloc rally in Delhi on November 1. According to reports from The Tribune and The New Indian Express, the disciplinary crackdown was ordered by the national leadership after members missed the 'Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao' event at Ramlila Maidan.

The suspensions include 60 members in Madhya Pradesh, 49 in Gujarat, 32 in Jharkhand, 26 in West Bengal, 14 in Telangana, 13 in Himachal Pradesh, 11 in Uttar Pradesh Central, and 10 in Haryana. In Gujarat, the suspended group includes 24 district presidents and state secretaries. The Madhya Pradesh suspensions comprise 32 state secretaries, 14 general secretaries, five vice-presidents, and nine district presidents.

The rally was organised to protest against alleged manipulation of electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. During the event, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar of facilitating alleged vote theft.

Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress president Pravinsinh Vanol confirmed the action was initiated by the IYC and implemented following an online meeting. Vanol stated that the 49 office-bearers in Gujarat have been removed from their positions and that the party will issue forms seeking explanations for their absence.

The suspensions remain in force until further notice. Sources indicated that those facing action must work on the ground and follow leadership directions to be considered for reinstatement.
