J-K Deputy CM accuses BJP of misleading Aga Ruhullah

Surinder Choudhary claimed the BJP is attempting to weaken the National Conference following the resignation of Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused the BJP on Wednesday of misleading Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and attempting to weaken the National Conference (NC).

According to the Daily Excelsior, the allegations follow the resignation of Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi from his Lok Sabha seat and the NC on Tuesday. Mehdi accused the party leadership, specifically Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, of betraying promises regarding the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Choudhary told reporters that the BJP should explain its role, citing remarks made by BJP senior leader Ram Madhav. Choudhary stated that Madhav had issued a statement saying those who attended Mehdi's programme were BJP people.

The Deputy Chief Minister described Mehdi as a decent and respectable person and questioned how he could be associated with the NC if the BJP claimed he was their man. He dismissed speculation regarding a possible new political formation involving former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mehdi, and MP Engineer Rashid.

BJP national vice-president Ram Madhav said on Tuesday that Mehdi's rally in Budgam was held with the blessings of BJP people. Madhav noted that the National Conference is visibly divided.

Earlier on Wednesday, Choudhary laid the foundation stone for 68 roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The roads cover 495.48 km at a sanctioned cost of Rs 1,164.06 crore.
