Abhijeet Bhattacharya vows to never lip-sync during live concerts

The singer addressed a recent controversy involving a minister calling out a performer for not singing live during an event.

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has stated he will never lip-sync during live performances, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

Speaking at the Chhattisgarh Rajyotsava 2026, Bhattacharya referred to a recent incident where a minister called out a singer for not performing live. While he did not name Daler Mehndi, he commented on a situation where a minister spoke the truth but was viewed as a villain for doing so.

Bhattacharya promised the audience in Chhattisgarh that he would always sing live, regardless of whether his voice is strained, if he gets tired, or if he sings off-key. He said he would not cheat the audience who spent hard-earned money to see him.

The controversy involved Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, who interrupted Daler Mehndi mid-performance at a cultural event in Uttarakhand last month. Uniyal questioned the singer's performance and stated that Mehndi looked disoriented on stage.

The minister told ANI that Mehndi was paid ₹35 lakh to perform at the event. Following the incident, Mika Singh, who is Daler's brother and a fellow singer, criticised the minister for disrespecting the singer and noted that Daler was unwell during the performance.

The minister has refused to apologise to Daler Mehndi regarding the incident.
