Meta to wind down support for Quest 2 and Quest Pro in 2027
Users of the older virtual reality headsets will see the end of new software testing and app submissions by late 2027.
Meta has confirmed plans to wind down support for its Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets in 2027, according to a News18 report. The company stated that both devices are reaching the end of their feature development cycle.
The headsets will receive their final compatible operating system update, version 2.13, which is expected in March 2027. Meta will continue to provide security updates and critical bug fixes until the end of December 2027.
The company will stop accepting new app submissions for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro in December 2027. However, Meta confirmed that owners can still browse the store, purchase apps, and use content they already own.
Multiplayer support will continue, allowing Quest 2 and Quest Pro users to play with people using the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. Developers can also continue to release updates for the older headsets.
Meta will no longer test new operating system versions or software development kit releases on these devices. Developers have been asked to review how many users still rely on the older hardware.
The Meta Quest 2 was launched in 2020, while the Quest Pro followed in 2022. Meta now considers the Quest 3 and Quest 3S as the starting point for its VR gaming platform.
