FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono describes most difficult days of life

The 25-year-old goalkeeper spoke out following the death of Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel during a Spanish second division match.

FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono said he is experiencing "the most difficult days of my life" following the death of Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel, according to BBC News.

De Miguel, 30, died after suffering a serious injury during a collision with Owono in a Spanish second division match on Monday. The incident occurred seven minutes into stoppage time while Tenerife and Andorra were drawing 2-2.

In a statement issued by his club on Wednesday, Owono said he is struggling to find words and is finding it hard to come to terms with the event. He added that he feels enormous pain over the loss and will face upcoming issues with utmost respect.

FC Andorra teammate Lautaro Spatz defended the goalkeeper, stating that Owono would never intentionally hurt anyone and has been deeply affected. Spatz noted that unfortunate incidents can happen in football, though none were expected to have such tragic consequences.

Spanish police have opened a routine investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter. Under Spanish law, a judicial inquiry is automatically triggered by any death deemed non-natural.

Tenerife has announced six official days of mourning and suspended all club activities. The club's matches against Granada and Andorra's match against Mallorca, both scheduled for the weekend, have been postponed.
