Maaya Revathi reaches WTA Chennai Open quarter-finals

The 17-year-old became the first Indian woman to reach a WTA Tour-level quarter-final in singles since Sania Mirza in 2012.

Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi reached the quarter-finals of the WTA Chennai Open 2026 on Wednesday, November 4, by defeating Weronika Falkowska. The 17-year-old won the Round of 16 match at the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu Tennis Stadium in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, according to a Times Now report.

Falkowska is ranked World No. 277. Revathi's victory follows her win on Tuesday, November 3, against 8th seed Katarzyna Kawa, who is ranked World No. 115. Revathi won that match 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Revathi is the first Indian since Sania Mirza at the 2012 Pattaya Open to reach the quarter-finals of a WTA Tour-level women's singles event. She is the third Indian to reach the last eight of such a tournament, joining Mirza and Sheikha Oberoi, who reached the quarter-finals of the 2005 Kolkata Open.

The teenager from Coimbatore previously trained at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca after receiving a one-year contract in December 2024. She recently moved to the Elite Tennis Centre in Cannes, France. Last month, she won the ITF W35 event in Lagos, Portugal, making her the youngest Indian to win a professional tennis tournament.

Revathi will play against Robin Montgomery, who is ranked 144, in the quarter-final on Thursday, November 5. Montgomery is unseeded in the tournament.
