Rohit Sharma's run-out changed momentum, says Shubman Gill in India win

India captain Shubman Gill credited Rohit Sharma's dismissal of Daryl Mitchell for shifting the game during the first ODI against New Zealand.

India captain Shubman Gill identified a run-out by Rohit Sharma as the turning point in India's five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first ODI at Eden Park on Wednesday. According to The Times of India, Gill stated that the dismissal of Daryl Mitchell changed the momentum of the match.

The run-out occurred during a partnership between Mitchell and Glenn Phillips. The Indian side restricted the hosts to 185 in 40.2 overs before chasing down a revised target of 143 in 32 overs under the DLS method. Virat Kohli scored 74 off 51 balls, while Gill contributed 37 to secure the win and a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Arshdeep Singh led the bowling attack with four wickets, while Gurnoor Brar took three for 44. Anshul Kamboj, who was named player of the match, finished with figures of 2/22 in 10 overs. Gill described Kamboj as a bowler tailor-made for such conditions due to his ability to seam the ball.

Gill also praised Brar for his ability to create extra bounce and pace. He noted that Kohli's composed batting made the rain-affected chase easier for the team after the wicket became nippier following the interruptions.

The series moves to Wellington for the second ODI on Saturday, November 7.
