PM Modi promises support to Maharashtra farmers facing drought

The Prime Minister stated that the NDA government is standing with farmers during the natural crisis while highlighting poverty reduction progress.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday promised that the Centre would provide all possible help to farmers in drought-hit areas of Maharashtra. Speaking virtually during the inauguration of the Pune Metro’s Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Line 3, Modi said the NDA government remains supportive of farmers during this natural crisis, according to the Hindustan Times.

Modi noted that he is aware of the difficult conditions in the state and told farmers not to worry about receiving aid. He mentioned that the state government has provided advance assistance and the central government has deposited PM-Kisan funds.

The Prime Minister also cited a recent World Bank report, stating that approximately 50 crore people in India have moved out of extreme poverty over the last 10-12 years. He said the country's approach has shifted from slogans to achieving tangible outcomes on the ground.

Regarding the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, the Prime Minister noted it provides eligible families with annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 through three instalments via direct benefit transfer. This is part of the government's efforts to help farmers manage the current crisis.

The state government has approved an advance payment of ₹5,000 for eligible farmers in drought-affected regions to provide immediate relief before crop-loss assessments are finished. Modi also requested citizens across India to support farmers during the upcoming festival season.
