Internal conflict grows in NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) over leadership control
Lawmakers expressed discontent over the dominance of Sunetra Pawar's sons during a meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Lawmakers of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) assembled at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar in Mumbai on Tuesday, November 3, to voice discontent regarding the rising dominance of her sons, Parth and Jay Pawar.
According to The Federal, the meeting addressed concerns that Jay Pawar seeks to control the functioning of ministers and party MLAs without consulting leaders before making key decisions.
The factional tension follows the death of Ajit Pawar and four others in a Pune district aircraft crash on January 28. Before the crash, Ajit Pawar had been in talks with Sharad Pawar about merging the two NCP factions.
Senior figures, including Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, Dhananjay Munde, and Hasan Mushrif, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to formally express unhappiness with the party's management under Sunetra and Parth Pawar.
Political analyst Vijay Chormare stated that trouble has been brewing for over a year due to the centralisation of authority by Sunetra Pawar's sons. Sunetra Pawar was previously elected National President of the NCP after earlier efforts to install different leadership were scuttled.
The conflict involves the broader Pawar family, as patriarch Sharad Pawar, who is currently being treated for pleuritic pain in Pune, has reportedly signalled to allies to resist non-family members taking control of the party.
