JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal meets West Bengal CM
Discussions focused on a ₹50,000 crore investment plan covering sectors such as power, steel, cement, and ports.
JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the Nabanna state secretariat on Wednesday evening. According to Business Standard, the meeting addressed investment opportunities in power, power systems, ports, cement, and steel.
Jindal described the meeting as "very good" and noted that various topics were discussed. This was his first meeting with Adhikari since the Chief Minister took office.
The JSW Group has estimated its investment plans for West Bengal at ₹50,000 crore. Jindal stated that ₹40,000 crore is designated for power, while the remaining ₹10,000 crore is for other sectors.
Adhikari said after the meeting that Jindal intends to hold the bhoomipujan for the second unit of his power plant during the first week of January.
In April 2025, the JSW Group began work on a 1,600-megawatt (MW) power plant at Salboni in the Paschim Medinipur district. The ₹16,000 crore project, which is the largest greenfield plant in the JSW Energy portfolio, had its foundation stone laid by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The Salboni project also includes the foundation stone for the JSW Industrial Park, which will feature plug-and-play infrastructure.
