Tamil Nadu registration department collects Rs 1,950 crore in October
Revenue rose by Rs 147 crore compared to the same month last year as the department expands digital services.
The Tamil Nadu registration department collected Rs 1,950 crore in revenue during October 2026, according to Urban Acres. This figure represents an increase of Rs 147 crore from the Rs 1,803 crore collected in October last year.
Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration D Logesh Tamilselvan chaired a state-level monthly performance meeting on Wednesday to review these figures. During the meeting, Tamilselvan told officials to prevent revenue leakages and meet annual fiscal targets.
The minister also instructed district registrars to resolve issues causing registration delays. He further ordered that applicants receive their registered documents on the same day the registration occurs.
The department has been expanding its digital services, including a presence-less registration system launched on August 17. As of November 3, this system had processed 2,46,260 documents, such as primary sale deeds for apartments and plots, payment receipts, and Memorandum of Deposit of Title Deeds for financial institutions.
Before the review, Tamilselvan inaugurated an artificial intelligence (AI) application for the department's legal wing. The tool is designed to monitor cases in the Supreme Court and high courts, helping officials prepare counter-affidavits and manage legal follow-ups.
The meeting included Commercial Taxes and Registration Secretary J Kumaragurubaran, district registrars, special deputy collectors, and assistant executive engineers. The department's upcoming priorities include meeting fiscal targets and ensuring same-day document delivery.
