JAC skips government meeting on Shillong ropeway project

The committee will submit a letter instead of attending the discussion to demand the relocation of the project from Lum Shyllong.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the ropeway project and for the protection of the Lum Shyllong catchment will not attend a state government discussion scheduled for Wednesday evening, according to the Meghalaya Monitor.

The group decided to send a formal letter to the government in place of physical attendance at the meeting held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong.

During a press conference, JAC functionaries stated that the project needs to be moved to a different location.

The committee's position is to demand the immediate cancellation of the project at its current Lum Shyllong site and its relocation to an alternative area.

The JAC stated that while they do not oppose the ropeway project in principle, they strictly oppose its present location.

The group noted that participating in further discussions would be unproductive as they have already articulated their stance through previous engagements.
