Short circuit suspected in Dalhousie's Turner Morrison Building fire
Firefighters battled a blaze at the Grade I heritage building for several hours on Monday night.
An electrical short circuit is suspected to have caused a fire at the Turner Morrison Building in Dalhousie on Monday, according to Telegraph India. The blaze broke out on the third floor of the heritage structure located behind the Writers’ Buildings.
Director-general of fire and emergency services Anurag Sharma said a report has been requested from the divisional officer to determine the cause. Officials stated that while a short circuit is suspected, the definitive cause can only be confirmed once a forensic report is available.
A forensic team is expected to visit the site to gather samples and locate where the fire started. This investigation, along with the divisional officer's report, will help officials understand how the fire spread and establish accountability.
At least 10 fire tenders were used to combat the blaze. Firefighters used aerial ladders to create openings in the roof and upper walls to release thick black smoke, while an ornate wooden staircase hindered access to different floors.
The building, which houses tea-processing units, stockbroking firms, and trading companies, saw no reported injuries or casualties. However, computers and machinery on the third floor were damaged, and the wooden staircase may have sustained extensive damage.
