Explosion damages railway track near India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan
Authorities suspended train services between Anupgarh and Suratgarh after a blast damaged concrete pillars and sleepers on the railway line.
An explosion damaged a railway track in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district near the international border with Pakistan, according to News18.
The blast occurred near the 50 GB point on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh line, destroying two concrete pillars and several railway sleepers. The impact created a crater approximately two feet deep, with the sound heard up to 200 metres away.
Security agencies, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and a dog squad reached the site to investigate. A team of security personnel arrived at the location around 2 am.
Sri Ganganagar SP Harishankar said that two cement pillars supporting the tracks were damaged in the suspected blast near 50 GB village. He added that an FSL team is being called to examine evidence and that it is too early to determine the exact nature of the incident.
Harishankar stated there is no established link between this event and the 7.5 kg RDX recently found in the border region. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Ramsinghpur Police Station.
Train services between Anupgarh and Suratgarh were suspended until 9 am as a precaution. An investigation is currently underway to establish the cause and determine if the track was deliberately targeted.
