Two police personnel killed in Pakistan polio security attack
Unidentified assailants opened fire on a security team in Mohmand district during a vaccination campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Two police personnel were killed and another was injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on them in the Mohmand district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, according to The Hawk.
Headquarters Deputy Superintendent of Police Liaquat Ali said the attack occurred near the Hashim Kor police checkpost in Pindiali tehsil as the personnel were heading to join a polio team for security duty.
The incident follows several recent attacks on polio workers in the region. On Monday, four polio workers were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an incident currently under police investigation, The Express Tribune reported.
In a separate event in the Azam Warsak area of Lower South Waziristan, two polio workers were abducted by gunmen and later released. The Express Tribune reported that gunmen linked to the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were allegedly responsible for that kidnapping.
The National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio Eradication (NEOC) said on Sunday that Pakistan reported its eighth polio case of 2026 in the Khyber district. A polio programme official told Dawn that the affected child is a 13-month-old girl from Bara tehsil.
This case marks the second instance in Khyber district and the sixth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to Dawn.
