Delhi CM alleges some states deliberately allow stubble burning

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accused the Punjab government of permitting stubble burning to impact Delhi's air quality.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday alleged that some states deliberately allow stubble burning to impact Delhi, according to ANI. Gupta specifically targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab regarding the pollution crisis.

The Chief Minister stated that while the Centre and neighbouring National Capital Region (NCR) states are working together on a common platform, some states appear unwilling to act. She suggested that these states allow stubble burning to begin so that their spokespersons can claim pollution levels in Delhi have increased.

Gupta said Delhi is adopting a 360-degree approach to tackle pollution through clean energy, solar power, and electric mobility. She noted that the city's public transport fleet is currently 100 per cent electric and aims to have 14,000 electric buses by 2029.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the establishment of three major biogas plants in Delhi to convert cattle dung into energy. Other measures mentioned include the plantation of 70 lakh saplings and the notification of the Ridge area as a forest.

Separately, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa accused the AAP government in Punjab of worsening pollution. Sirsa alleged that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Bathinda had reached 1,100, calling it the most polluted city in India.
