ED summons ex-minister C Vijayabaskar and wife in assets case

The Enforcement Directorate has issued fresh notices to the TVK leader and his wife regarding an alleged ₹35.79 crore case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a second round of summons to former Tamil Nadu minister C Vijayabaskar and his wife, V Ramya, in connection with an alleged money laundering case. According to reports from Hindustan Times and The New Indian Express, one of them is required to appear at the agency's Chennai zonal office this Friday, while the other has been called for questioning next week.

The investigation involves assets allegedly accumulated by Vijayabaskar during his term as the Health and Family Welfare Minister in the AIADMK government between 2016 and 2021. The probe follows a 2021 case filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), which alleged the accumulation of ₹35.79 crore in assets beyond known income sources.

This follows a previous round of summons in March 2024, after the ED conducted searches at Vijayabaskar's residences in Chennai and Pudukkottai. The agency recorded statements from both Vijayabaskar and Ramya during that initial investigation.

Vijayabaskar, who currently serves as the Pudukkottai district organisational secretary for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), joined the party led by C Joseph Vijay in July this year. He previously served as an MLA and minister under the AIADMK government.
