Trump claims Republicans would have won landslide if he were on ballot

The US President blamed his absence from the midterm elections for Republican setbacks as Democrats made significant gains.

US President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that the Republican Party would have secured a landslide victory in the 2026 midterm elections if he had been on the ballot. Trump made the statement on his Truth Social platform following major setbacks for his party.

According to reports from Times of India, Mathrubhumi, and India TV, Democrats secured key victories in several states. In the Senate, Democrats won races in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, New Hampshire, Texas, and Ohio. In South Carolina, Democrat Annie Andrews defeated Republican Darline Graham, marking the first time a Democrat has won a Senate seat in that state in over two decades.

The election results reflected voter concerns regarding inflation, the economy, government corruption, and the war in Iran. Democrats are projected to win a majority in the House of Representatives, which would put House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in line to become the first Black Speaker of the House, pending a floor vote.

Responding to the results, Jeffries stated on Facebook that the MAGA movement is losing ground. Trump told The New York Times that he is willing to accept the election results and expressed a readiness to work with Democrats.

A White House official told Fox News that the mood inside the White House remained defiant. The official suggested that Trump's supporters are more likely to turn out when the President is directly on the ballot and noted that the quality of Republican candidates was a factor in the outcome.
