Telangana CM directs officials to share Tummidihatti project details with Maharashtra
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to provide information on land submergence to the Maharashtra government.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed irrigation officials to provide all information requested by Maharashtra regarding the proposed Tummidihatti barrage. According to The New Indian Express, the Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare specific details about areas that may be submerged by the project.
The directions follow talks on October 26 between Revanth Reddy and Maharashtra's Devendra Fadnavis regarding increasing the height of the Godavari River project from 148 metres to 152 metres. Telangana is seeking consent from Maharashtra as the increased height would cause submergence in the neighbouring state.
During a review meeting at his Jubilee Hills residence, Revanth Reddy said the Telangana government is ready to pay fair compensation for any lands in Maharashtra affected by the project. He expressed willingness to deposit the necessary funds into a joint account operated by both state governments.
The Chief Minister stated that Telangana would not object to Maharashtra performing an independent survey to assess potential submergence. He also told officials to exchange all relevant documents, including existing agreements, with the neighbouring state.
Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Irrigation Adviser Adityanath Das, Irrigation Secretary Sridhar, and Engineer-in-Chief Ramesh were present at the meeting. Revanth Reddy emphasised the need for continued dialogue and coordination to resolve outstanding issues.
