Tamil Nadu demand for separate flag dates back over 50 years

Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna recently called for a separate flag during celebrations held on November 1, 2026.

Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna recently called for a separate flag for the state, according to The Hindu.

The suggestion was made on November 1, 2026, during celebrations for Tamil Nadu Day led by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government.

This demand is not a new development for the state. Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had made a similar demand in 1970.

Fifty-six years ago, Karunanidhi and his party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), were considered important by the Congress regime led by Indira Gandhi at the Centre.
