PDP was founded to undermine Jammu and Kashmir interests, says NC
National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar criticised the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the Peoples Democratic Party for their political history.
The National Conference (NC) stated on Sunday that the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not contribute to the development or interests of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a report by Daily Excelsior, NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar made these remarks in response to allegations made by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
Dar claimed that the PDP was established in 1999 to weaken the demand for autonomy led by the NC. He said that despite the PDP securing only 16 of the 87 Assembly seats in the 2002 elections, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became Chief Minister as part of a political design.
The spokesperson further alleged that the PDP sought votes on an anti-BJP platform in 2014 but later formed an alliance with the party. He stated that during the three and a half years of power after 2015, 237 civilians died and more than 30,000 people were injured under the Mehbooba Mufti government.
Dar also noted that 31,000 people were arrested and over 1,000 were booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) during that period. He demanded a high-level investigation into scandals that emerged during the BJP-PDP regime to ensure accountability for the youth of Kashmir.
