Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi hits back at National Conference
Ruhullah responded to allegations of moral bankruptcy from the National Conference after resigning from his party and parliamentary seat.
Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has responded to the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) leadership after the party accused him of self-obsession and mental and moral bankruptcy. According to India Today, the dispute follows Ruhullah's resignation from the party and his parliamentary seat during a gathering in Budgam on Tuesday.
Ruhullah accused the NC leadership of failing to meet electoral commitments and questioned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's position on restoring Article 370. In a statement released by his office on X, Ruhullah called the NC's remarks shameless and suggested the leadership was more upset by being questioned than by the loss of constitutional rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
The NC had previously criticised Ruhullah for his comments regarding political events in 2010, alleging he only remembered those events after 16 years. The party noted that Ruhullah served as a minister until a reshuffle and contested the 2014 Assembly elections with the NC ticket. Ruhullah responded by saying he had acknowledged his responsibility regarding that government, but questioned if Omar Abdullah, who was Chief Minister at the time, had done the same.
Ruhullah also challenged the NC to explain why they promised the restoration of Article 370 while knowing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in power. He further criticised the government over reservation reforms and the release of political prisoners. He rejected the claim that his political career depended on the party, stating that the votes and seats belonged to the people.
The NC had described Ruhullah's resignation as being too late and accused him of damaging the party and playing a role in its loss during the Budgam Assembly by-election. Ruhullah concluded his response by telling the leadership to stay rattled.
