Government must prepare youth for future opportunities, says Sharanprakash Patil
The Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development spoke at the Bengaluru Skill Summit 2026 on Tuesday.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the Bengaluru Skill Summit 2026 on Tuesday, Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Sharanprakash Patil said the government must equip young people for emerging future opportunities rather than just current jobs.
According to The Hindu, the three-day summit is organised by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood (SDEL). The event is hosted by the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) in partnership with the Karnataka Skill Development Authority (KSDA), with the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) serving as the knowledge partner.
Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil stated that Karnataka provides a skilled workforce and investor-friendly policies to support industries. Minister for Information Technology, Biotechnology, and E-Governance Priyank Kharge added that the state is pitched as the country's knowledge and skill capital.
Guruprasad Mudlapur, president of the Bosch Group in India, said skill development is an economic and social imperative. He urged the industry to participate in anticipating future capabilities and shaping learning.
Rangesh Raghavan, corporate vice-president and MD of LAM Research India, noted that advanced industries like semiconductors require a focus on talent over infrastructure. He said that while the state produces many engineering graduates, there is a lack of domain-skilled workers such as technicians and operators.
The event also released several publications and recognised participants from the 48th WorldSkills Competition 2026 held in Shanghai, China. These participants received a Silver Medal and a ‘Best of Nation’ Award in the Bakery category, alongside eight Medallions for Excellence.
