Devendra Fadnavis urges police to use technology for crime prevention
The Maharashtra chief minister encouraged Pimpri-Chinchwad police to adopt modern tools as the industrial area's population is expected to grow.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged the Pimpri-Chinchwad police to use modern technology to improve crime detection and prevention in Pune, according to The Times of India.
Speaking at the inauguration of various projects for the Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate, Fadnavis noted that the industrial area may surpass Pune in population within the next 15 years.
The state government has supplied the Pimpri Chinchwad police with 350 body-worn cameras, four drones, and 65 new vehicles. Fadnavis also stated that work is underway to develop AI to assist police machinery, with investigations becoming entirely AI-based in future years.
Fadnavis said the dial 112 emergency response system has lowered response times to three minutes, noting that Pimpri Chinchwad police rank first in the state in this area. He also mentioned that Maharashtra Police ranked first in the country for emergency response.
Regarding substance abuse, Fadnavis said the government aims to make the country drug-free within three to four years. He called for collective efforts from citizens, parents, and institutions to protect the youth and dismantle distribution networks.
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey said the changing nature of crime and rising population have increased law and order challenges. The commissionerate has increased its police stations from 17 to 25, including an independent cyber police station.
