UP CM announces free LPG refills for Ujjwala beneficiaries on Diwali and Holi

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath released Rs 1,500 crore in subsidies for more than 1.89 crore eligible families.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Tuesday that eligible families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will receive one free LPG cylinder refill during Diwali and Holi. The announcement was made during a programme in Lucknow where the Chief Minister participated in distributing subsidies to more than 1.89 crore beneficiaries in the state, according to ANI.

The state government has allocated Rs 1,500 crore for the distribution of these LPG cylinder refill subsidies. According to Prabhat Khabar, the funds are being transferred to the bank accounts of beneficiaries to ensure they receive the assistance without intermediaries.

Addressing the event, Adityanath noted that the price of one domestic gas cylinder is Rs 983.45. He explained that while the Government of India provides a subsidy of Rs 335, citizens currently pay Rs 648.55. He stated that the decision to provide a cylinder on Diwali and Holi would allow families to use the saved money for festive needs.

The Chief Minister compared the current administration's approach to previous governments, alleging that under the Congress government, people faced many hardships to obtain a single gas connection. He stated that the current government provides free connections to poor families as part of good governance.

Adityanath also mentioned that the Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Ayodhya to review preparations for the Deepotsav event on November 7. He described the festival as a symbol of social unity that brings different sections of society together.
