Suvendu Adhikari and Smriti Irani attack Opposition alliance in Bengal
The BJP leaders targeted dynastic parties and the Congress leadership during separate events in Siliguri and Calcutta on Tuesday.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and BJP national general secretary Smriti Irani launched a two-pronged attack on the Opposition alliance in Siliguri and Calcutta on Tuesday, according to Telegraph India.
Speaking in Siliguri, Adhikari labelled certain political parties as 2G, 3G, and 4G, claiming they have joined hands to create anarchy. He described the Congress as a 4G party, the National Conference as a 3G party, and referred to the Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party as 2G parties.
Adhikari claimed former chief minister Mamata Banerjee has lost political relevance in West Bengal. He also mentioned the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the Vishwanath temple revamp in Varanasi as endeavours of the BJP government.
In Calcutta, Irani attacked the Congress regarding its charges against the Election Commission’s (EC) special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She stated that the Congress lost 56 elections between 2014 and 2025 before the recent SIR.
Irani cited statistics stating the Congress did not form a government in Tamil Nadu in 59 years, in West Bengal in 49 years, in Uttar Pradesh in 37 years, and in Bihar in 36 years. She also mocked Rahul Gandhi and noted that Trinamool members stood with him at the Ramlila Maidan protest on Sunday.
Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya, who accompanied Irani, appealed to Mamata Banerjee, Md Salim of the CPM, and Adhir Chowdhury of the Congress to hold a joint march in Bengal before showing unity in Delhi.
