West Bengal reviews 125-day rural employment programme implementation

A district-level meeting in Salt Lake aimed to examine progress and address delays in the rural work scheme.

A district-level meeting was held on Wednesday morning at the Panchayat Department headquarters in Salt Lake to review West Bengal’s 125-day rural employment programme, according to Urban Acres.

The meeting was intended to assess programme progress across districts, identify slow-moving blocks, and seek explanations for unmet targets.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Dilip Ghosh and Minister of State for Panchayat Shantanu Pramanik were reported to be in attendance.

The review follows a meeting the previous week between senior state officials and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari regarding the pace of rural employment.

The administration reportedly indicated that officials might face consequences, such as transfers, if they do not fulfil their duties adequately.

The programme marks a shift from a 100-day framework to a 125-day entitlement under the VB-G Ram Ji Act, which became operational across India on 1 July 2026.
