West Bengal Madhyamik 2027 exam dates proposed to be shifted to March
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has proposed moving the Class 10 exams to avoid clashes with census enumeration work.
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has proposed a revised schedule for the 2027 Madhyamik examinations, shifting the start date from February 15 to March 2, according to reports by News18 and Telegraph India.
The proposed change aims to avoid a clash with the West Bengal Census 2027 exercise, which is scheduled to run from January 25 to February 28, 2027. The census will require the deployment of teachers for enumeration work during the period originally set for the exams.
Under the new proposal, the examinations would be held from March 2 to March 16, instead of the earlier schedule of February 15 to February 25. WBBSE president Laltu Das said the board has sent the schedule to the state School Education Department as a proposal and the department will take the decision.
The proposed timetable suggests the first language paper on March 2, followed by the second language on March 3 and History on March 5. Other subjects include Geography on March 8, Mathematics on March 12, Physical Science on March 13, Life Science on March 15, and optional elective subjects on March 16.
The examinations are expected to be held in pen-and-paper mode from 10:45 am to 2 pm each day, with students receiving 15 minutes to read the question paper. The duration for certain vocational and specialised optional elective exams may vary, potentially concluding between 12:30 pm and 3 pm.
The dates are not yet final and require approval from the state School Education Department. Admit cards for the Madhyamik 2027 exams are expected to be released in January.
