Maharashtra makes Aadhaar verification mandatory for property registration
Buyers, sellers and other parties must now complete UIDAI authentication through a mobile application before documents can be registered.
Aadhaar-based mobile verification is now required for all individuals participating in property registration in Maharashtra, according to a report by Urban Acres. The new rule, which began on November 4, uses the state registration and stamps department’s iSARITA 1.9 system.
The process, known as online verification seeking entity (OVSE), utilizes the official UIDAI mobile application to authenticate people. This method has been added to existing fingerprint and iris scanning options, registration officials told the Times of India.
Under the updated guidelines, the previous option to use a witness or identifier to verify someone after a failed Aadhaar authentication has been removed. All parties in a transaction must now successfully complete the authentication for the registration to move forward.
Deputy inspector general of registration for information technology Abhay Mohite said users must perform SIM verification and face authentication on the app using a six-digit PIN. He added that a detailed video will be shared on the department’s social media channels to assist citizens.
The Aadhaar holder must be physically present with the mobile phone linked to their Aadhaar record during the OVSE process. A registration official noted that those who have locked their biometrics will need to unlock them via the app at the time of registration.
