Assam minister Atul Bora presented the award in Guwahati during a programme marking the 15th death anniversary of the artist.

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein received the Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Award 2026 in Guwahati on November 5, according to The News Mill.

The award was presented by Assam minister Atul Bora at a commemorative programme titled ‘Mahamilanor Tirtha’. The event was organised by the Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust in association with the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society to mark the 15th death anniversary of the artist.

Mein stated that the award belongs to the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He noted that Hazarika’s work in cinema, music, and cultural documentation helped connect the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted specific compositions such as ‘Arunachal Hamara’, which is the official state song of Arunachal Pradesh. He said these works reflected Hazarika's affection for the state and its landscapes.

Mein suggested that the two states should work more closely together regarding literature, theatre, film, music, and the protection of local cultural legacies. He described the ties between the states as being based on shared history and friendship.

The programme was attended by several individuals, including Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra secretary Sudarshan Thakur and former Assam Sahitya Sabha president Surya Kanta Hazarika.
