India successfully tests indigenous Pralay missile off Odisha coast

The quasi-ballistic missile met all test objectives during user evaluation trials at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed Pralay missile off the coast of Odisha on Thursday, according to Moneycontrol.

The test took place at approximately 11:10 am from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island as part of user evaluation trials. Data captured by various range instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, confirmed that all test objectives were met.

The Pralay is a solid-propellant, short-range surface-to-surface quasi-ballistic missile with a range of 150 to 500 km. It can carry different types of conventional warheads with a payload capacity of 500 to 1,000 kg and uses advanced guidance and navigation systems for precision.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated on X that the successful trial marks a significant milestone in strengthening India's indigenous defence capabilities. He congratulated the DRDO, the Defence Forces, and industry partners on the achievement.

The missile was developed by the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, alongside other DRDO laboratories, and manufactured by development-cum-production partner Bharat Dynamics Limited. Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh also congratulated the teams involved.

The Defence Ministry said that with the successful completion of these trials, the induction of the Pralay missile system has become imminent.
