Centre rejects Rajasthan request to repatriate four IAS officers
The central government declined the state's request to bring back four senior bureaucrats currently on central deputation.
The central government has rejected a request from the Rajasthan government to repatriate four senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers currently on central deputation, according to reports by NorthBlockSouthBlock and Bhaskar English.
The Rajasthan government had approached the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) seeking the early return of Naresh Pal Gangwar, Rajeev Singh Thakur, Roli Singh, and Rajat Kumar Mishra to strengthen its administrative machinery.
The state government stated that the experience of these officers is essential for improving administrative coordination, monitoring welfare programmes, and ensuring the timely implementation of Budget announcements.
The rejection comes as Rajasthan faces a shortage of experienced bureaucrats. Out of 332 sanctioned IAS posts, only 241 were available for regular state postings as of June 2026, according to NorthBlockSouthBlock.
Currently, 39 senior IAS officers, including the Chief Secretary, are handling responsibilities for multiple departments, boards, and government institutions simultaneously to manage the workload.
The four officers sought by the state hold various positions, including Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Secretary in the Department of Fertilizers, and Chairperson of the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention.
