Naidu seeks national examination reforms to ensure student equality
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister called for a transparent system that considers linguistic diversity and regional requirements through state consensus.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called for broad reforms to India's national examination system to provide fair chances for students regardless of their language or location, according to reports by The Pioneer and Deccan Chronicle.
Speaking at the Secretariat on Wednesday during a meeting with the Examination Reforms High-Powered Task Force, Naidu said any proposed changes should be built on consensus and include the views of all states.
The Chief Minister stated that education must move past mere marks and exams to prioritise the development of creativity, critical thinking, and student skills.
Nandan Nilekani, the chairman of the task force, said the group is looking at ways to bolster the security and integrity of exams. He noted that focus areas include preventing leaks of question papers, improving technology use, and strengthening cybersecurity and digital forensics.
Minister for Human Resources Development and Information Technology Nara Lokesh suggested that reforms should aim to lower academic pressure on students. Lokesh also advocated for better national coordination to help students moving between states avoid hurdles related to different certification procedures or languages.
Nilekani added that the task force is travelling to various states to study existing education policies, identify challenges, and gather feedback from stakeholders.
