Kiren Rijiju mocks Rahul Gandhi over debate challenge to Prime Minister
The Union minister compared the Congress leader's challenge to the Prime Minister to fundamentalists discussing secularism.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday mocked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open debate regarding 'foreign help', according to the Deccan Chronicle.
Rijiju stated on X that top level debates are conducted between matured people. He said the challenge was the same as 'Islamic fundamentalists talking about secularism'.
The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, had on Monday challenged the Prime Minister to an open debate after Modi accused the opposition of seeking foreign help to destabilise the country. Gandhi also accused Modi of occupying the prime minister's chair with 'foreign help'.
Rijiju, a senior BJP leader, said that pushing the agendas of India's enemies while accusing others of foreign support is self-ridiculing. He compared the situation to separatists holding Indian flags and anarchists showing the Constitution book.
During a visit to Gujarat on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi said that while the country sought solutions to external challenges, certain forces were creating instability by spreading lies and rumours.
Modi also made a veiled reference to Gandhi's foreign trips, asking who is secretly meeting whom abroad and who is speaking the language of India's enemies.
