BJP seeks talks between Osmania University authorities and striking employees

Telangana BJP president N. Ramachandar Rao visited the protest camp to express solidarity with non-teaching and contractual staff members.

Telangana BJP president N. Ramachandar Rao on Wednesday demanded that the State government and Osmania University (OU) authorities hold immediate talks with striking employees to address their long-pending demands, according to The Hindu.

Visiting the protest camp in front of the Osmania University Administrative Building, Rao expressed solidarity with non-teaching, technical, time-scale, and contractual employees.

The protesters are seeking the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), regularisation of services, better healthcare benefits, and the resolution of other service-related issues.

Rao criticised the university administration for its attitude towards grievances and questioned why benefits available in other universities are not extended to Osmania University staff.

The BJP leader demanded the restoration of the OPS for employees appointed between 2001 and 2004 and the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for those recruited after 2004.

Rao also called for increasing the medical reimbursement limit from ₹10,000 to ₹30,000 and urged the university to fill vacant posts and clear pending internal promotions.
