Crime Branch questions CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka
The Cockroach Janta Party leaders appeared before Delhi Police on Thursday regarding alleged trespassing at Jantar Mantar in October.
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka appeared before the Delhi Police Crime Branch in Rajouri Garden on Thursday, November 5. According to Rediff, the two leaders arrived at the office around 11 am to be questioned by officers.
The investigation involves two FIRs concerning an incident on October 13, when the leaders allegedly entered the denotified protest site at Jantar Mantar. The cases were originally filed at the Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations and were subsequently moved to the Crime Branch.
The Hindustan Times reported that the group, which included CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde and 11 others, allegedly trespassed into the site while protesting against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. During the protest, the group reportedly unfurled the national flag and raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Das and Ranka had previously been held in judicial custody and were released from Tihar jail on October 21 after providing personal and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each. The Hindustan Times stated that Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) Ritu Raj ordered their release following written undertakings in which they promised not to breach the peace.
The leaders had been summoned for questioning before the end of October but requested additional time, failing to appear for those earlier sessions.
