At least two people died after an under-construction building fell in Old Delhi on Thursday morning.
A three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Chawri Bazar area of Old Delhi on Thursday morning, according to reports from Scroll and Times Now. The incident was reported at approximately 9:50 am from Gali Sitara, located near the Chawri Bazar Metro station.
At least two people have died, and several others are feared to be trapped under the debris. At least six fire department vehicles, including rescue vehicles and water tenders, have arrived at the site to conduct operations.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj criticised the government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on X. He questioned why buildings continue to collapse despite multiple safety audits being conducted by the MCD and the government led by Rekha Gupta, alleging that departments have collected bribes instead of taking real action.
This incident follows other recent building collapses in the city. On September 6, a five-storey building used for paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan collapsed, killing seven people. On October 7, five people died when a four-storey building collapsed in Seemapuri, northeast Delhi.
