Three-storey building collapses in Delhi's Chawri Bazaar

Several people are feared trapped under the debris of an under-construction structure in Old Delhi.

A three-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Chawri Bazaar area of Old Delhi on Thursday morning. According to reports from Times Now, Telegraph India, and Bhaskar English, the incident occurred at approximately 9:50 am in Gali Sitara, located near the Chawri Bazaar Metro station.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene with at least six fire units, including rescue vehicles and water tenders. Senior officials are currently supervising the ongoing rescue and relief operations to locate those feared trapped under the rubble.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj criticised the government of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Bharadwaj alleged on X that despite multiple safety audits, buildings continue to collapse and claimed that departments have collected bribes instead of taking real action.

This incident follows several other building collapses in the capital this year. Bhaskar English reported that 21 people have been killed in five major collapse incidents across Delhi so far this year, including a September 6 collapse in Satya Niketan and an October 7 incident in Seemapuri.

Details regarding the total number of casualties and the specific cause of the Chawri Bazaar collapse are still awaited.
