Three-storey building collapses near Delhi Chawri Bazaar metro station

Several people are feared trapped under debris after an under-construction structure fell in Old Delhi on Thursday morning.

A three-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Chawri Bazaar area of Old Delhi on Thursday morning, according to reports from the Times of India. The incident took place at approximately 9:50 am in Gali Sitara, located near the Chawri Bazaar metro station.

At least six fire brigade teams, comprising rescue vehicles and water tankers, have arrived at the site to conduct operations. Senior officials are currently supervising the search for people believed to be stuck under the rubble.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj criticised the government of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta following the collapse. Writing on X, Bharadwaj alleged that despite safety audits, buildings continue to fall and claimed that multiple departments have collected bribes instead of taking real action.

The exact number of people trapped and the reasons for the collapse have not yet been confirmed. This incident follows a series of building collapses in Delhi this year, including a September 6 collapse in Satya Niketan that killed seven people.
