DSS demands public apology from Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah over palace remarks

The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi criticised the district in-charge Minister for claiming the Mysuru palace belongs to the government.

The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) has demanded that district in-charge Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah issue a public apology regarding his recent comments on the Mysuru palace, according to The Hindu.

The Minister had stated that the Mysuru palace belongs to the government and that the erstwhile royal family was generously allowed to reside there. DSS State coordinator Ningaraj Malladi said at a press conference on Thursday that the Minister must exercise restraint in public statements.

Malladi stated that the government must respect the erstwhile Mysuru royal family for its contribution to regional development. He noted that reservation was introduced in the erstwhile Mysuru State during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, long before B.R. Ambedkar championed equality.

The DSS also criticised a lack of coordination between the Palace Board, the Police Department, and district administration personnel.

DSS Mysuru city co-ordinator Pailwan Krishna alleged that 40 senior wrestlers who served as judges for Dasara wrestling competitions over the last two years have not received their ₹2,000 honorarium. He further alleged that the Dasara sub-committee stopped felicitating these wrestlers and failed to provide basic food arrangements.

Krishna also raised concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the selection of wrestlers for the Kesari Award.
