Manipur crisis consumes half of my time, says Khemchand Singh
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated that the state's law and order situation has limited his capacity for development work.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on November 5, 2026, that the state's law and order crisis has occupied 50 per cent of his time since he took office. Speaking at the inauguration of INNOTECH FEST 2.0 at the Manipur Science Centre in Takyelpat, Imphal, Singh said he spends nearly eight hours every day considering solutions to the state's problems.
According to The News Mill, the two-day event was held by the state's department of science and technology and the Manipur Innovation Foundation. Singh noted that science and technology are vital for nation-building and that youth participation is necessary to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Regarding agriculture, Singh said the government has taken steps to ensure subsidised urea reaches farmers on time. He mentioned that after questioning agriculture department officers about previous distribution issues, he instructed them to ignore political or influential pressure to ensure fertilisers reach genuine beneficiaries.
Singh claimed that following his intervention, the government has received no complaints from farmers this year regarding the availability or distribution of subsidised urea. He also noted that the distribution of rabi crop seeds started in October this year, rather than in February as seen in previous years.
The Chief Minister urged government departments to implement centrally funded projects efficiently and to submit utilisation certificates on time. He also called on those in power to work with honesty and sincerity for the development of the state and the country.
