Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari also promised electricity subsidies for four lakh farmers and special packages for cultivators in three specific districts.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced a Rs 50 per quintal subsidy for potato growers on Thursday during an event in Pursurah, Hooghly district. According to The Telegraph India, the Chief Minister also detailed electricity subsidies for four lakh farmers and special packages for cultivators in Jhargram, Purulia and Alipurduar.
Adhikari stated that the BJP government in Bengal is committed to the welfare of farmers. He added that potato growers will be permitted to transport their crops to other states.
The Chief Minister noted that 46 lakh farmers in the state are set to receive benefits through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Under this Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programme, the Union government provides Rs 6,000 annually to farmers' families in three equal instalments.
In June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 23rd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, which totalled Rs 18,880 crore. More than Rs 900 crore of that amount was designated for beneficiaries located in West Bengal.
