Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has requested financial support for Bengaluru's infrastructure and urgent assistance for drought-hit areas.
Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a special financial package for Bengaluru's infrastructure, expedited drought relief, and help for sugarcane farmers, according to ThePrint.
In a letter dated November 4, sent following the Prime Minister's Karnataka Rajyotsava greetings, Shivakumar highlighted the pressure on Bengaluru's roads and public transport due to rising population and economic activity.
The Chief Minister also requested the Centre's partnership for a proposed AI university in Bengaluru and the establishment of an AIIMS in Raichur to improve healthcare in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
Regarding agriculture, Shivakumar urged the Centre to intervene in sugarcane farmers' demands, including revising the sugar Minimum Selling Price (MSP) of Rs 31 per kg, which has been unchanged since February 2019.
The letter also detailed a severe drought situation, noting that 226 of 240 taluks are affected after the state received a 35 per cent rainfall deficit between June 1 and September 30, 2026.
Shivakumar has requested an appointment with the Prime Minister for an all-party delegation to discuss these drought relief and sugarcane farmer issues further.
