Leave Madhya Pradesh or face jail, CM Mohan Yadav warns Congress leaders
The Chief Minister vowed strict action against the liquor mafia following the death of a police officer in Dewas district.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has warned Congress leaders allegedly connected to the illicit liquor trade to leave the state or face imprisonment, according to India Today.
The Chief Minister stated that his government will take strict action against the liquor mafia and will not spare anyone involved in criminal activities, regardless of their political affiliation.
The warning follows an incident on November 2 in Dewas district, where Khategaon police station in-charge Dilip Puri was killed and Constable Sohan Jat was injured while attempting to intercept a truck carrying illegal liquor.
Puri was allegedly run over by the truck driver near Sandalpur crossing on the Indore-Betul highway. Police have since seized over 1,800 litres of illicit liquor that was reportedly being moved from Timarni in Harda district to Gujarat.
Authorities have detained three people, including alleged operator Rahul Jaiswal, while the driver and cleaner are currently absconding. Raids are continuing across five districts to find other accused individuals.
While Congress leaders, including Umang Singhar and Jitu Patwari, questioned the government's ability to dismantle the syndicate, the BJP alleged a Congress leader is linked to the network. The deceased officer's wife also reportedly named a Congress leader who had allegedly threatened her husband.
Chief Minister Yadav has ordered an impartial investigation and announced Rs 1 crore in financial aid for Puri's family. He also directed that the officer's wife be appointed as a sub-inspector on compassionate grounds.
