Education must focus on building good human beings, says Omar Abdullah

The Chief Minister attended the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society awards ceremony in Jammu.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attended the 'Honour & Excellence 2026' awards ceremony of the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society (DJSES) at the Convention Centre in Jammu on November 5, according to the Daily Excelsior.

The event celebrated high-achieving students in Class X and XII board exams, employees with 25 years of service, and notable alumni of the society's institutions.

Addressing the gathering, Abdullah said the goal of education should go beyond marks to develop individuals with moral values and independent thinking.

He noted that the DJSES manages 24 schools across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, educating approximately 28,000 students and employing nearly 1,600 people.

The Chief Minister encouraged students to ask questions and use Artificial Intelligence ethically, stating that technology should enhance learning rather than replace critical thinking.

During the ceremony, it was noted that the society achieved a 99 per cent pass percentage in the Class X and XII board examinations for the 2025-26 academic year.
