SFI complains to President over Kerala Governor's Instagram handle

The Students' Federation of India alleges that Governor Om Prakash Mathur's social media handle violates the required political neutrality of his office.

The Students' Federation of India (SFI) has filed a complaint with President Droupadi Murmu against Kerala Governor Om Prakash Mathur. According to Rediff, the complaint concerns the inclusion of the BJP name in the Governor's official Instagram handle.

SFI Thiruvananthapuram district secretary Nandan M A sent an email to the President alleging that the handle, named 'ommathurbjp', contradicts the impartiality expected of a constitutional official. The SFI, which is the student wing of the opposition CPI (M), stated that such a connection could damage public confidence in constitutional institutions.

The complaint noted that a Governor should act as a protector of the Constitution rather than a representative for a political party. Nandan M A cited Mathur's previous roles within the BJP when seeking the President's intervention to maintain the dignity of the office.

Mathur was sworn in as the 29th Governor of Kerala on October 23. He succeeded Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who has been appointed Governor of Tamil Nadu.

The Lok Bhavan has not provided an official comment on the matter.
