Neonatologist Arun Kumar Singh appointed as advisor to Bengal government

The BJP-led state government has selected the AIIMS Jodhpur professor for a two-year term, according to officials.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led West Bengal government has appointed neonatologist Arun Kumar Singh as an advisor for a two-year term, according to officials familiar with the decision reported by Hindustan Times on Thursday.

A state government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the order was signed on Wednesday.

Singh, a professor who currently leads the neonatology department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jodhpur, is known for his work in newborn care. He previously served as an adviser to the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's child health division.

During the Left Front's rule in West Bengal, Singh headed the neonatology department at SSKM Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. He assisted in establishing the hospital's breast milk bank and neonatology wing.

Singh moved to Rajasthan after a 2012 transfer order from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. Following the TMC's victory in 2011, the health department under Mamata Banerjee transferred Singh from SSKM to a district hospital.
