Kerala PSC employees union protests against alleged attempts to destroy commission

The Kerala PSC Employees Union held a demonstration in Thiruvananthapuram following a Crime Branch investigation into examination discrepancies.

The Kerala PSC Employees Union organised a protest in front of the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday to demand an end to what they termed attempts to destroy the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC).

According to The Hindu, the protest occurred during an ongoing investigation into alleged discrepancies in certain examinations conducted by the commission.

CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan inaugurated the protest and accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) government and parts of the media of conducting slanderous attacks on the PSC to help facilitate contract appointments.

The union, which held a strike and work boycott at the PSC headquarters on Wednesday, stated that a technical error during the evaluation of the Planning Board Chief post is being incorrectly presented as corruption and irregularities.

The union claimed the government has filed a criminal case and launched a Crime Branch investigation against employees despite existing laws for departmental action regarding official lapses.

The Crime Branch has arrested former Deputy Secretary P. Satheesh and Additional Secretary R. Hari, who was suspended pending inquiry.

The State government has also withheld the retirement benefits of Mr. Satheesh.
